Mildronate meldonium by Grindex Pros and mechanisms of action
This product has been widely used by Russian Olympic team in 2010es until they have been banned from Olympic games indeed for state-implemented policy of steroid abuse and, the most-important, state-implemented policy of changing probes of the sportsmen. A state apparatus including FSB, Ministry of sport, local WADA branch was willing to swap urine samples and fabricate test results. To lesser extend it has been also used by sportsmen throughout all Eastern Europe and probably still in use despite of WADA ban.
It’s medical function is providing heart support. For the sportsmen this is also makes critical advantage.
The rationale for meldonium’s use in sport is based on its ability to shift energy metabolism. The proposed benefits include:
-
Improved Oxygen Efficiency: By inhibiting carnitine synthesis, meldonium shifts energy production from fatty acid oxidation to glucose oxidation. This process is more oxygen-efficient, which theoretically helps during high-intensity exercise where oxygen supply is limited .
-
Enhanced Endurance and Recovery: This metabolic shift could improve aerobic endurance, protect against oxidative stress, and shorten recovery times, allowing athletes to train at higher intensities .
-
Cardioprotection: Some research suggests it may protect the heart against “athletic heart syndrome” and mitochondrial dysfunction caused by intense, prolonged exercise .
Common Side Effects are rare and lower comparing to many other drugs: According to the package leaflet, this includes allergic reactions, headache, and indigestion .
